The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame honored 15 Ysleta ISD student-athletes with the 2024 Ray Sanchez High School Student Athlete of the Year award for excellence in academics, community service, and athletic achievements.
Each Ysleta ISD high school chose one outstanding female athlete and one outstanding male athlete for the award based on a variety of rigorous criteria, incorporating not just their prowess on the field but also dedication to their academic studies and volunteer service.
The award was named in honor of Ray Sanchez, who passed away in 2022 and was a monumental figure in the world of sports journalism; an accomplished author; and a revered sports historian; and played a pivotal role in the formation of the Hall of Fame in 1955.
