The Ysleta Independent School District – and 13 of its campuses – were named Thursday to the 2023 Texas Honor Roll for outperforming their peers statewide in closing student achievement gaps, particularly among higher-poverty and historically disadvantaged student populations.
Only 12 percent of eligible schools statewide – and 10 percent of eligible school districts – received the Texas Honor Roll designation, which shines a positive light on schools and districts where students are learning the fundamental skills that employers value.
At Ysleta ISD, the 2023 Honor Roll schools are:

North Star Elementary
Ramona STEM Academy

Ysleta ISD and these 13 campuses were named to the Texas Honor Roll for demonstrating comprehensively higher performance on the STAAR reading language arts and math assessments that is improving outcomes for historically underserved student populations.
“We are incredibly proud to have achieved this remarkable distinction for the Ysleta Independent School District and our campuses,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Xavier De La Torre. “Making the Texas Honor Roll is a genuine reflection of the passion and commitment of our teachers, staff, and administrators, who dedicate themselves to creating the kind of small, safe, and nurturing learning environments where excellence flourishes.”
To make the Honor Roll, a school or district must have comprehensively performed above the mean (trendline) at least 80 percent of the time for all cohorts of students and grade levels.
Among all 89 districts and 835 schools who were named to the Honor Roll this year, Ysleta ISD and its campuses were in the “STAR” category because more than 33 percent of students are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged.
This is the ninth year that Educational Results Partnership (ERP) has released the Texas Honor Roll, which is part of the national Campaign for Business and Education Excellence that recognizes successful schools/educational systems while promoting best practices that improve student outcomes and prepare them for success. It is the only school recognition program that is presented in partnership with state business leaders and is based solely on objective student achievement data, ERP officials said.
