Eastwood Middle School 8th grader Hailey Delgado is a dynamo in the world of youth wrestling. She showed her determination and grit, and came away with a gold medal for the United States in the women's freestyle competition at the U15 Pan American Wrestling Championships in Panama City, Panama in November. As one of the nation's best youth wrestlers, and the only competitor from El Paso, Hailey won her medal in the 42 KG division by pinning Jennifer De Souza Queiroz of Brazil. Hailey earned a spot at the U15 Pan American Games by qualifying at the Pan American Team Trials at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado in August. She also won 1st place at the Women’s Free Style Nationals in May in Spokane, Washington, which earned her a spot to advance to the qualifier tournament. Hailey trains at the Next Level Wrestling Academy in El Paso where her father, Anthony Delgado, is her coach. She not only is an elite athlete, she also excels at Eastwood Middle School. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, on the middle school soccer team, and participates in Q-BEC, which stands for Question, Build, Explore, Create. She plans to join the award-winning wrestling team at Eastwood High School next school year. Her next tournament is the National USA Wrestling Tournament in Dallas on December 17. |
